Classes, Butter, and the Amazing Gym

My classes yesterday were decent.  College algebra was dreadful.  I was one of five people who actually knew how to factor a polynomial... and I'm not even good at it!  I love my history class, though.  It's so interesting.  I've been meeting all sorts of nifty people, including a girl who shares my first and middle name.

The food here is crazy fattening.  Everything tastes like butter, and the salads are wilted.  My dad already told the "dietitian" that I'm a vegetarian, but I'm thinking that if I tell them I'm a vegan I can get a special meal plan.  I could never actually be vegan, though.  I couldn't give up my yogurt.  To counterbalance the food, there's the campus gym.  I was so impressed.  Who knew a college in Mississippi would have such a nice workout center?  Half the girls there are super skinny, and the other half are huge.  I was one of the only people in the in-between range.  So there was good motivation on both sides of the spectrum.  Yesterday's workout was pretty good.  Brisk 1 mile walk to get there and warm up, 15 minutes on the stationary bike, 35 minutes on the elliptical, and then a 1/4 jog back.  I missed cardio so much.  My heart is behaving for now, so we'll see how this goes.

The goal while I'm here is to have a net under 800.  Next week I'll lower it to 700, and on and on.  Until I'm netting 500 by the time I go home.  I was going to do the SGD until I got here and realized how out-of-practice I was with restricting.  But I netted 426 yesterday, so I'm doing well.

I don't want to go to school here, but I think I'll be happy enough for the next month.

  1. Good luck with college. I know it stinks that they don't always have the best food to eat. But it's great that you have a workout facility to use.

  3. The gym sounds great! I hope your heart behaves for the whole time you're there (and after, obviously). It sounds fun- minus the algebra. Maths was NOT my strong point- that about factoring a polythingy? Straight over my head- what's a (checks) polynomial? xx

  4. I've seriously taken College Algebra 5 times. I keep getting a D in it. It's really starting to piss me off. lol. It's the only thing holding me back from applying for the nursing program.

And yeah, University's have the WORST food. They cook up whatever's cheapest. Hence the "freshman fifteen".

I'm glad they have a workout center though! I would love to be able to go swim laps at my uni. They have a lap pool... but I'm too fat. And someone just drowned at our pool a couple weeks ago (see Missouri Western drowning).

  5. wow, summer college sounds awesome! I know, I love being able to get back in shape and actually run places without being in a gym the whole time. I'm sorry about the food, but I'm sure you'll be able to wiggle your way to a good medium! Thanks for the sweet note earlier, it made a tough day less stressful. :) much love
